They’re Here…………….
It’s August, the peak month for stingray season and it was very evident yesterday as I walked through the surf in search of snook last night. These are the one’s that will get you too (southern stingrays). Most that I saw last night were less than 3-feet wide but can still give you a nasty injury! As I shuffled along I saw probably 15 of the bad ones last night.
New Shell Island Restrictions
Well it was news to me when I heard today/yesterday. Shell Island has been made off limits to dogs and alcohol. The St. Petersburg Times posted an article (Below) in December that the Pinellas County Department of Environmental Management has decided to pass these rules to protect nesting shore birds.
The new restrictions also will limit parties and camping, these activities will now require a permit from the county. There are now signs (just recently) posted on the island stating this. Too late to fight it, rumor has it the parties are moving to some of the sandbars near John’s Pass. We will keep ya posted!
Skurfing 6/1/08
Some pictures from this past Sunday. Caught some good skurf from Mikey B’s boat! Enjoy!
Scary 1st SCUBA Experience
We’ve all heard the recent stories of the dive trips where a pair of divers gets left behind but this situation was almost real life for me only worse, my dive buddy wasn’t even with me! I was 17 years old and I took my certification trip out of West Palm Beach back in 1997. We left the dock around 9am and had a short stop in about 25-30 feet of water. This stop was a one-on-one with the instructor. We decended to the sandy bottom and then went over the different exercises to essentially get checked out for the other two dives that day. I passed with flying colors, no mistakes.
