This provides some of the best and largest redfish that the state of Florida has to offer. The clear water and good tidal movement also attract many offshore fish that you wouldn’t expect to catch within casting distance of shore. Red snapper, gag grouper, and kingfish are just a few species that you can catch with a little practice from the white sandy beaches of Fort Pickens. New State Gulf Grouper Regulations
FWC adds protection for Gulf grouperAfter carefully considering testimony from several fishery organizations and conservation groups at its public meeting in Crystal River, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) decided to make its grouper rules in state waters compatible with federal regulations to help rebuild Gulf gag grouper stocks and ensure quality fishing for this important species in the future.
Fishing Report 6/8/09
Inshore: Good bites from the big three: trout, redfish, and flounder right now. Almost every fish I am seeing is a slot sized fish right now or legal size flounder. Some reports of grouper and mangrove snapper near Pensacola Pass and a few snapper in Santa Rosa Sound.
Offshore: Everything is biting depending on how far you go. Red Snapper limits are easy, some gags and gray triggerfish are mixed in as well.

FWC approves Gulf gag and red grouper rule changes
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on Thursday approved rule amendments for gag grouper in Gulf of Mexico state waters that are consistent with interim regulations in Gulf federal waters. In addition, the FWC approved a rule amendment to allow Florida recreational anglers to harvest more red grouper in Gulf state waters.
