Surf Report 8/16/08
Upham Beach 10:44am: Surf is very small and not rideable. Last few days were pretty good for summer surf so hopefully you got on it. They are forcasting Tropical Storm Fay to move into the Gulf this week as early as Tuesday. Hopefully no direct hits but could see some huge surf on the backside of a near miss. The forecast is for Fay to go right over the top of us on Tuesday afternoon. If that’s the case we may see no surf, maybe a backside ground swell. We will keep you updated. For more Fay info check out the Weather Underground link under surf links at the top of the page.

Upham Beach 12:15pm: Surf is here, knee to thigh maybe at Upham. Down south it is clean and good so head south if you can! Chest to Shoulder reports near Sarasota/Venice. Sneaky ground swell, hopefully it will hang around. Good clean stuff too I hope since Dolly didn’t pass too close. Don’t follow the wave models!!!
Dolly is slowly strengthening, right now it is at 70mph winds.

Upham Beach 9:00am: Flatness out there, the tropics have heated up and there is a storm (Dolly) in the gulf but I don’t expect we will get much out of it. Offshore flow looks to keep the swell far away from us. Keep checking the wave models, maybe we can get some sort of ground swell out of it, but as of right now, nothing.

Upham Beach 9:00am: Some little swell still left out there near the passes. Last night Sam caught some consistant shin to knee high surf at Upham on the longboard. Should be in that range today around the right tides. Last night was a low tide when the surf was at it’s best. The tropics continue to ramp up. The peak season is typically around September 10th. The cause for concern now is a tropical wave off of the windward islands. Could be in the Gulf of Mexico sometime next week. It depends which side of Puerto Rico and The Dominican Republic it stays on. If it heads south it could make it into the gulf, north would make it likely to bring some surf to the East Coast. Here is a good link to track its development: http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200894_model.html
