Fishing Report 10/4/08
Inshore: The redfish bite and snook bite has been very hot from the passes to around the mangrove islands. Mangrove snapper are still eating well and can be found around any kind of structure. Still some left over pompano around area bridges.
Offshore: Just a few reports of some gag grouper and some snapper. Pretty rough this week offshore.

Inshore: It has been the most productive mangrove snapper year I have ever seen. Either that or they are just following me around. I am being rewarded with keeper snapper at just about every spot I have fished in the last 4 months. Other than that, snook have been feeding near the passes and tarpon are still hanging around. As we move into October I expect that the Speckled Trout bite will pick up and should be a strong winter if we can survive the next couple months without red tide setting in. Jeff Haas reported seeing some down in Boca Grande. Lets hope it was just a algal bloom from Tropical Storm Fay runoff.
Lots of Life on the Water
Today was out fishing and saw several cool things. I got out at about 2:30pm to a ripping outgoing tide. Fished the pass for about 4 hours. Not too much for me to show but was able to catch some cool photos of tailing snook and some caught hogfish! Also saw a red grouper caught. I managed a couple snapper and a gag grouper. Sorry about the lack of fishing reports lately. Really been rough and windy the past few days so not a ton of reports coming in. Tons of Mangrove Snapper are lurking in the shadows at Gandy Bridge, Sunshine Skyway, and all the other bay area bridges. As the beach calms there may be more snook hookups. Trout and reds are being caught on the deep drop offs of the seagrass beds.

Inshore: Mangrove snapper have been hard to avoid lately around any kind of structure inshore. I have also seen some schools of large jacks roaming the seawalls and canals eating up everything in their paths. Juvenile gag grouper are also keeping me on my toes around bridges and jetties. As the surf calms a little on the beach I look forward to getting back out there in search of snook but it has been slow the last couple weeks due to larger than normal waves.
