Fishing Report 9/9/08

Inshore:  It has been the most productive mangrove snapper year I have ever seen.  Either that or they are just following me around.  I am being rewarded with keeper snapper at just about every spot I have fished in the last 4 months.  Other than that, snook have been feeding near the passes and tarpon are still hanging around.  As we move into October I expect that the Speckled Trout bite will pick up and should be a strong winter if we can survive the next couple months without red tide setting in.  Jeff Haas reported seeing some down in Boca Grande.  Lets hope it was just a algal bloom from Tropical Storm Fay runoff.

Upham Beach 9:00am:  Surf is small and unrideable.  Chance of very small surf throughout the week at the right tide and place.  Nothing really big on the horizon though right now.  The Panhandle is showing some good surf this week but the jellyfish have been so bad up there that no one is going in the water.  Looks like fun skim on the shore break all week!

Upham Beach 8:50am:  Still flat out there.  Keeping an eye on a couple tropical disturbances but they are at least a week out.  Look for small skim in the afternoon when the seabreeze picks up but very small other than that.  Got a report yesterday of Jellyfish still in the water up in the Panhandle, they’ve been dealing with those since before Memorial Day.  Keep checking back and check out the surfing links at the top of the page.

Lake of Mexico, 9:30am.  Small Skim lines during the afternoon when the seabreeze kicks up.  We are keeping an eye on it but nothing on the horizon.

Even the East Coast and Panhandle look pretty flat.
