Stone Crab Season Open
Today marks the opening of Stone Crab season in Florida. Season is October 15th through May 15th. Keep up on the regs here: http://myfwc.com/marine/regulation.htm While is is legal to take both claws it is a more ethical fishing practice to take one claw only. The crabs need at least one claw to help fend off predators, protect themselves in territory disputes with other stone crabs and also to help find and protect their food. Recreational stone crabbers are allowed up to 5 traps to be set in state waters, make sure you check into the new regulations for marking (identifying) your traps if you decide to place any in open water areas.
Snook Season is Coming!
Monday (September 1st) is opening day for Snook season!!! I am always excited for the opening of season not just for the chance to get out and keep one but it always seems like a good excuse to just flat out go fishing! As if I needed another reason to go out and fish! Anyway get out there and go fishing, remember the regulations on the west coast are one fish per person between the slot 28 and 33 inches.
