Fishing Report 7/19/09
The summer is flying by too fast. The Gulf of Mexico is pretty flat today after 3-foot seas offshore yesterday from the cold front that moved through on Friday. Now is a great time to do some summer time offshore fishing or some night-time shark fishing from the beach. Good reports of speckled trout and redfish inshore. Also some kingfish being caught near the U.S.S. Massachusetts and the buoys just outside of Pensacola Pass.
Fort Pickens Has it All
For those of you living in the area you are all well aware of Fort Pickens. The history and lack of development has attracted people from all over the world. It also provides world class fishing opportunities. The redfish gather at Pensacola Pass and spend their time here spawning. This provides some of the best and largest redfish that the state of Florida has to offer. The clear water and good tidal movement also attract many offshore fish that you wouldn’t expect to catch within casting distance of shore. Red snapper, gag grouper, and kingfish are just a few species that you can catch with a little practice from the white sandy beaches of Fort Pickens. At night-time, the shark fishing is also some of the best Florida has to offer. So don’t forget to look under your nose next time you want to book a world class fishing trip. Sam’s Shark Fishing Excursion (Now Pics)
I’ve never been shark fishing before, so me and Wes went out last Friday night at Blind’s Pass. We put out our chum bag and threw out our bait. In no time I was hooked up with a 4-footer. I’ve never really caught any big fish( Besides a 6 lb Bluefish) before, so this was a fun fight for me.
Fishing Report 6/13/08 (Pics)
Some good reports coming in of flat water and calm, hot days. Now is the time to be out there. As far as the fishing goes: plenty of beach snook, big redfish, and tarpon to keep you busy this weekend. Also would be a great weekend to try some shark fishing. Reports are coming in from all around the bay area and Boca Grande to Honeymoon Island. Most are Atlantic Sharpnose and Blacktips but there are some big bulls and hammerhead sightings as well. Good timing for these photos sent in of the Hass family in Boca Grande of two mean Atlantic Sharpnose Shark and a bonnethead, looks like everyone got in on the action! The first picture is Jimmy, 2nd is Alyssa and the 3rd is Austen. Thanks to Jeff Haas for submitting the photos!
