Fishing Report 6/15/08
Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads out there. Sons take your dads beach fishing cause it is good right now. Went to Shell Key yesterday and saw tons of snook, but they were on the move and not eating. The morning and around sunset are your best bets. A quick stop by Egmont Key yeilded no Bonito or Tarpon but the small baits were still there!
New Shell Island Restrictions
Well it was news to me when I heard today/yesterday. Shell Island has been made off limits to dogs and alcohol. The St. Petersburg Times posted an article (Below) in December that the Pinellas County Department of Environmental Management has decided to pass these rules to protect nesting shore birds.
The new restrictions also will limit parties and camping, these activities will now require a permit from the county. There are now signs (just recently) posted on the island stating this. Too late to fight it, rumor has it the parties are moving to some of the sandbars near John’s Pass. We will keep ya posted!
Wildlife Photography
It is a new hobby of mine that I have been very interested in over the past few months. So I got a starter camera, 10.1 MP Casio Exilim and started shooting. So far it has been a tough learning experience and I really need a camera with a better zoom to do what needs to be done.
However, I think it adds a degree of difficulty that has been fun to play with. Getting close to wildlife is a great experience for me and I find it rewarding when I can capture the moment. With a little help from people like Apollo Beach Sam (See friends links), Brandon Sciame (See friends Links - Revel), and Adrian Correa I have been able to learn when the best time to shoot is and what camera modes to work with. Here is my favorite one that I have so far, White Pelicans on Shell Island. Then below that is Adrian’s Reddish Egret!!! Adrian really set the bar here for me, I have chased these around forever and never gotten a picture of a reddish egret that is half the quality of this. Thanks for making me look bad A!!!!
