Inshore: Down south today is one of my favorite days of the year…. Snook Season Opening Day!  I wish I was down there just as an excuse to go snook fishing.  Up here we have some SPECK’tacular fishing going on as well.  Big specks, redfish, and flounder are everywhere.  the bay is also holding some decent size spanish mackerel right now.

Offshore: We are wrapping up most of the bottom fishing and getting ready for a fall run of white and blue marlin.  The wahoo bite has been off the chain this summer.

Launched from Bayou Texar at around 1:00pm.  Pulled up to the my first spot and the wind was really on me.  I lost anchor a few times but managed to fish for about an hour and got two real nice specks (22″ and 24″).   The 24″ was the second biggest of my lifetime.  I’ve caught them longer but not that fat before.   I also got 4 snapper and a crevalle jack.  After the anchor pulled a 4th time I ran to the 3-Mile Bridge and score 2 Bluefish over 6 pounds.  A run over to Deadman’s Island produced a spanish mackerel for the grill and a couple ladyfish.  Here are the pics of the pig speck:

Inshore: Lots of redfish and speck reports coming in the last couple of days.  Good schools of bluefish and spanish mackerel in the bays.

Offshore: Red Snapper Season is winding to a close.  Get out there this week for the last of them.

Fishing has been very good lately.  Lots of good reports of kingfish, spanish mackerel, red snapper, and many other species close to shore.  Lots of good shark reports coming in too from beach fishermen.  Best bet for this week is kingfish just off the beach.  The tournament winner on Saturday at Flounder’s was 52 pounds.
