Wade Fishing Naval Live Oaks Park

July 21, 2009 · Filed Under Articles · Comment

Tonight did some wading out at Naval Live Oaks Park in Gulf Breeze, FL.  Sam and I got out there at about 6:45pm and fished until about 8:15pm.  We were throwing live and dead shrimp under a popping cork.  Lots of pinfish made it pretty rough but we managed about 4 ladyfish, 3 specks, and 2 redfish.  We fished in about 4-feet of water.  I was removing a fiesty ladyfish from the hook when it jumped off the hook and bit my nipple.  That was the highlight of the trip, it really hurt!!  At least it was a “ladyfish.” :)  Here are the pictures:

The summer is flying by too fast.  The Gulf of Mexico is pretty flat today after 3-foot seas offshore yesterday from the cold front that moved through on Friday.  Now is a great time to do some summer time offshore fishing or some night-time shark fishing from the beach.  Good reports of speckled trout and redfish inshore.  Also some kingfish being caught near the U.S.S. Massachusetts and the buoys just outside of Pensacola Pass.

Inshore:  It has been the most productive mangrove snapper year I have ever seen.  Either that or they are just following me around.  I am being rewarded with keeper snapper at just about every spot I have fished in the last 4 months.  Other than that, snook have been feeding near the passes and tarpon are still hanging around.  As we move into October I expect that the Speckled Trout bite will pick up and should be a strong winter if we can survive the next couple months without red tide setting in.  Jeff Haas reported seeing some down in Boca Grande.  Lets hope it was just a algal bloom from Tropical Storm Fay runoff.
