Fishing Report 10/26/08
Inshore: Lots of good trout fishing right now on the flats and dock lights at night. I think this is setting up to be a great winter for trout fishing since they are so plentiful now and with the absence of red tide this past summer. Look for some gators to be feeding this winter! As far as the snooking goes, some spotty reports the last few days but I expect them to be on fire this week up until the next cold front.

Lots of reports still coming in despite the howling 20-30 mph winds out of the east. Lots of mackerel and jacks on the beaches. It is hard to throw any kind of small jig or spoon and not get a bite. There are plenty of ladyfish mixed in as well. I saw one report of a big tarpon caught at the Skyway Bridge and plenty of snook and redfish reports, even some over-slot fish. Nobody really venturing offshore yet.

Tarpon are still the hot topic but the full moon has spread them out between offshore, the beaches, and the bay bridges. If I were going after them I think I would start at the Sunshine Skyway and move to the Gandy from there. Snook are still on fire on the beaches and at the passes. I did manage to toss a jig around in a canal yesterday… I caught one ladyfish and one small crevalle jack. Also saw a 3′ barracuda under a dock that came out to look at the jig but then moved on.
