Crazy Summer Weather
It happens every summer, but being away from St. Petersburg the last 6 years really made me realize how crazy the weather here is during the summer months. This year has been particularly strange and the dynamic weather pattern has kept me on my toes each day I venture out to the beach or on the boat.
It is important to be prepared for these weather conditions, have back up plans, and proper safety gear before headed out on the water. I once heard someone say, “If you don’t like the weather in Florida, just wait 15 minutes and it will change.” Believe it or not, a tropical system passing closely by is just what the doctor ordered to help level things off. Tropical systems will draw a lot of the humidity out of the area and help restore crazy patterns. They also cool the waters as they pass, by drawing energy out of the water. The water cooling, even a few degrees can help an unstable weather pattern become more stable.
Surf Report 7/12/08
Upham Beach 9:35am: Flat still today, something on the horizion on the Gulf but it may be too late for the weekend. I am thinking a shot at surf Monday through Wednesday. Will update later.
East Coast: Big, clean swell from Bertha, forecast looks good for surf over the next couple of weeks. Another major tropical system expected in the Atlantic next week. Keep an eye on the wave models.
Surf Report 7/7/08
Upham Beach 8:55am: Summer flatness still out there. Some small skim in the early afternoon hours today. An outside chance of a little bump happening Wednesday morning. I will keep an eye on it. Nothing tropical affecting the Gulf Coast at this time.
Cocoa Beach: Small surf, maybe longboardable on the right tides. Expect an increase with the passing of a tropical system that may push some clean waist high plus surf later this week.
