Surf Report 4/11/09

Pensacola Beach 4:00pm:  Surf is up, offshore winds have dropped it some but it is still in the waist high range and clean.  Look for it to drop a little more but should likely yeild at least some longboard surf for Easter.  Stay safe out there.

Pensacola Beach 1:45pm:  Small surf this morning increasing in size this afternoon.  Should be up near waist high by late afternoon.  Surf should hold throughout the weekend, smaller on Sunday.

Upham Beach 11:00am:  Surf is up, around waist high at Upham.  Probably a little bigger in Clearwater or down south around Pass-a-Grille.  High tide is around 3pm.  Posting some pictures from yesterday on the home page.

Upham Beach 9:20am:  Surf remains up.  It is about waist high at Upham and bigger everwhere else.  I would expected it to be about chest high in Pass-a-Grille.  There will be at least small surf through the weekend.  Hurricane Ike should make landfall in Texas this evening as a Cat. 3.  Hopefully it sucked some of the energy out of the gulf so that no major hurricanes form after this one.

Upham Beach 9:30am:  No surf.  Conditions are still flat.  Looking for Hurricane Ike to start its push.  Looks like again we will have offshore winds that will cause some clean conditions.  Only issue I have with that is that the window of opportunity for surf is going to be small like we had with Dolly.  I think the push will begin mid to late Wednesday and into Thursday.  Hope we get some good swell filling in before that, but it is a wait and see.  As always with this scenario, it will sneak up on us.  It will be flat and then all of the sudden start to build to near waist high.  Ike is a Cat 1 expected to build to a Cat 2 today.
